Meter Interfaces
There are several hardware interfaces that can be used to pass data from the
meter to the gateway. To provide almost universal compatibility to electric,
gas, and water meters, the C3IGateway has been designed to directly connect
to four pulse initiators. However, many commercial and industrial applications
require the use of electronic meters. While electronic meters can provide
pulse outputs, serial interfaces to these meters can provide increased capabilities
and are potentially more reliable. The C3IGateway has been designed to interface
with electronic meters through RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces.
The C3IGateway can use any of the following hardware interfaces to gather meter data:
Pulse initiators provide a simple KYZ pulse that the C3IGateway uses to calculate all
of the necessary consumption information. The RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces provide
the hardware link to most electronic meters, although some meters must have a serial interface
card added.
